Toledo Zoo's snow leopard Dariga makes public debut
Slinky and cautious at first, a new snow leopard cub soon grew bolder as she explored the exhibit at the Toledo Zoo. Dariga, which means ‘surprise’ in Kazakh, went on exhibit Monday after she was born June 8 to first-time parents Greta, 3, and Shishir, 4. She represents the beginning of a new bloodline in North America after her parents were imported from two different Scandinavian zoos early this year. “You’re talking about a cat that’s very elusive and we don’t know a lot about it,” Jeff Sailer, the zoo’s executive director, said. “We have a big commitment to the species, and this is a big deal.
